Survival or Hardcore: choose your next CS2 challenge
CSGuessr asks you to watch a CS2 clip and guess the player's Premier rating bracket. Survival and Hardcore turn those reads into runs. Choose between keeping a score through mistakes and building a streak with no misses.
Both modes ask for the right bracket
In both modes, you choose from the seven rating brackets. Only the correct bracket counts as a hit. An adjacent bracket is still a miss, so a guess that felt close can have a real effect on the run. You do not need the player's exact rating; results show a bracket and the exact clip rating stays on the server.
If you are still learning the colours, start with the Premier bracket guide. The game modes overview covers the full rules across the site. This guide focuses on choosing a run that suits the way you want to practise and on getting useful feedback when the run ends.
Choose Survival to recover after a miss
Survival starts with three lives and a score of zero. A correct bracket adds a point to the run and normally adds 26 to your CSGuessr rating. A wrong bracket costs a life and normally costs 10 rating. Your score stays in place after a miss, and a correct answer preserves your remaining lives rather than restoring a lost one.
The run ends when your last life is gone. Restarting brings you back to three lives and a score of zero; your best score is kept. This gives you room to carry on after a bad read. Choose Survival if you want to notice how you respond to a mistake without immediately ending the whole attempt.
For practice, use a lost life as a pause. Recall what convinced you and compare it with the revealed bracket. Then approach the next clip on its own evidence. Remaining lives do not make the next answer more predictable, and your earlier score does not tell you anything about the next player's rating.
Choose Hardcore to practise consecutive hits
Hardcore measures consecutive correct brackets. A hit extends your current streak, and a miss resets it. There is no spare life to spend. Correct answers normally add between 31 and 40 to your CSGuessr rating as the streak grows; a miss normally costs 20. The game keeps your best streak as well as your current one.
Choose Hardcore when you want each answer to test the same careful routine. A long streak can tempt you to rush because the earlier reads went well, or to second-guess a sound choice because you want to protect the run. Neither feeling adds evidence. Give a difficult clip the same attention you gave the opening one.
When a run ends, identify the decision that changed your answer. Did you overvalue one shot, overlook the preparation, or change your choice without a new reason? A reset is a clear point to review that decision before starting another streak. It is not proof that every earlier judgment was reliable or that every future one will fail.
Keep your practice goal separate from rating
Your Survival score and Hardcore streak describe the run. Your CSGuessr rating is a separate total affected by scored answers. Neither changes the clip player's Premier rating. In both modes, a clip whose answer you have already seen does not change your rating, and each clip can be played once per day in that mode.
Pick a practice goal you can describe plainly: keeping your reasoning steady after a miss, or making consistent bracket choices before a miss. Do not choose Hardcore only because its hit rewards are larger. A reward says what the game pays for a result; it does not guarantee that your next read will be correct.
Use the same reading routine in either mode
Watch the whole clip, choose a bracket, and name the evidence behind it before locking. After the result, check whether that evidence was useful. The clip-reading checklist gives you cues to work through. Keeping the routine steady makes it easier to spot which judgments need attention across either type of run.
