How to guess a CS2 rank from a clip

Good aim shows up in every bracket. What changes with rating is everything around it. Watch the whole clip, then work through this list before you lock a guess.

1. Crosshair placement

Where does the crosshair sit when nobody is on screen? Low-rated players look at the floor and walls and drag onto heads. Higher-rated players keep it at head height and pre-aim the next angle, so their kills look like the enemy walked into the crosshair.

2. Movement

Look for counter-strafing (a clean stop before shooting), jiggle-peeks to gather information, and silent movement near enemies. Running while spraying, or walking out wide into several angles at once, points to a lower bracket.

3. Utility

Does the player throw smokes, flashes and molotovs that change the fight, or only to spend them? Pop-flashes for a teammate, a molly that clears a common spot, or a retake smoke placed on time are signs of higher rating.

4. Positioning and trading

Strong players stand where they can be traded and fall back when they lose the advantage. Watch whether they fight alone, or next to a teammate who can punish the enemy that kills them.

5. Decisions

Rotations, saving a lost round, playing the time on a bomb, not re-peeking an angle after getting a kill. The better the decisions, the higher the bracket, even if the aim is ordinary.

Common traps

  • Highlight clips. A fast four-kill round happens in every bracket. Judge the habits, not the kill count.
  • Weak opponents. If the enemies stand still in the open, the player may simply be facing a low lobby.
  • One lucky shot. A single flick or wallbang says little; consistent crosshair placement says a lot.

Practise it

CSGuessr shows you a real clip, you pick one of seven rating brackets, and the result tells you how far off you were. The Daily Draft gives everyone the same five clips each day, so you can compare your reads.
